The five Scrum values are commitment, focus, openness, respect, and courage. According to the Scrum guide:
Successful use of Scrum depends on people becoming more proficient in living the five Scrum values.
Under the scenario of: What should I do when team members, have a difference of opinion about how to build a user story. The answer is very simple. Gather the team.
Always consider under these circumstances the values of courage, openness, and respect. They are lived by all members of the team, the Product Owner, the Scrum Master, and the Developers. When issues arise between anyone on the Scrum Teams, they should have the courage to face them and have open, honest, and respectful discussions of the problem and come to a conclusion.
An agile team is an empowered team and it is up to them to resolve their disputes collectively. Remember, if the team had issues understanding the story, then the Product Owner would be consulted. However, if the doubt comes from a technical matter, the Scrum Master or Product Owner, is unlikely to have the knowledge required to make a decision. In this case, the developers should gather and discuss the issue openly.
The Scrum framework was designed specifically for managing complex projects that must be able to adapt quickly to changes in scope or requirements. That’s why the five Scrum values: commitment, focus, openness, respect, and courage, are so critical to the success of a Scrum project.
